Back to School!

Posted by

The way I see it you either look forward to your kids going back to school or you absolutely dread it.  If you’re anything like me, you were probably counting down the days to the start of the school year — if only to get some structure back into your daily life.

Summer has it’s own set of special challenges: trying to keep kids busy, breaking up arguments and keeping your babysitter from quitting so you can go to work but still feel guilty for not being at home.  Back to school season brings stress too, but it also offers some relief from summer’s madness. For my family it means a return to early bedtimes, packing four lunches every night, tons of paperwork, lots of reading and going back to work without that guilty feeling.  Our hectic school year begins with open houses for four kids, picture days, fundraisers, sports, tests, meetings and the list goes on and on…

No matter how crazy it gets, I try to remind myself of one thing every year: It will be over before you know it so try to enjoy what you can.  Volunteer for the Fall Festival, make sure you attend the dreaded awards ceremonies and be early to holiday shows so you can get a front-row seat. Bring on another year of complicated math homework, book reports and science fair projects. Because these are the things and the days you can never get back.

Enjoy your school year!
